Forsyth Park is the largest green space in Savannah’s Historic District: about 30 acres of live oaks, lawns and paths at the district’s southern edge. Its white cast-iron fountain dates from 1858, the Forsyth Farmers’ Market fills the south end every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, and entry is free.
This guide covers what to see in the park, when to come, how it fits into a day in Savannah, and where to stay within walking distance.
What to see in Forsyth Park
Best light for photos: early morning, when the fountain is quiet and the sun comes through the oaks from the east. Saturday mornings get busy once the market opens.
Forsyth Park in a day in Savannah
The park sits at the south end of Bull Street, the spine of the Historic District. Walk north from the fountain and you pass five of Savannah’s famous squares before reaching River Street about a mile away. That makes the park an easy start or finish for a walking day. Not up for the walk? The hop-on hop-off trolley stops close to the park and links it to the riverfront.
